All-India Senior Selection Committee of the BCCI met here on Monday and decided to appoint Ajinkya Rahane as captain of Indian team for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.
Selection Committee also decided to rest the senior members including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Umesh Yadav for the Zimbabwe series next month.
Offspinner Harbhajan Singh has made a comeback to the ODI side after being included for the one-off Test against Bangladesh.
The Indian team just concluded a disappointing tour of Bangladesh, losing the ODI series 1-2, completing seven months of continuous cricket.
The tour of Zimbabwe was on the verge of cancellation over the broadcasting rights issues. But an eleventh hour solution has revived it and India is all set to play three ODIs and a couple of T20 internationals at Harare, starting July 10.
BCCI decided to send a totally new team, giving the younger players a chance in the tour comprising three ODIs and two T20s.
“I feel the side is very good, it is young and holds the future for Team India,” BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said.
